Welcome to WeedWizard — Groningen’s Green Connection
Groningen, though small, is home to a big mix of cultures and people. Whether it’s a junkie on the street, a student buying a bike from that same junkie, or a business professional running late to work — you’ll not only see them all, but probably get to know them too. With the city’s size and our shared hobbies, we’re bound to cross paths sooner or later.
One thing that brings many of us together is our shared love for the same green plant.
Since this is the first blog entry, I want to let you know what this page is all about. We’re here to learn about weed together and to build a safe space where you can share your experiences without feeling judged. This is where Reddit meets weed — a community to post your high stories, trade insights, and maybe even make a new friend.
In life, people are always searching for connection — for others they truly vibe with. For many of us, weed is something that helps start that connection. This website is here to make that first step easier. Join the WeedWizard group and start the journey.
The Dutch Weed Experiment — What’s Changed?
Groningen, despite what many think, has long been known for its high-quality cannabis scene (source to be added). But recently, things have changed with the launch of the Wietexperiment (Dutch Cannabis Experiment).
Under the new system, only nine licensed growers across ten districts in the Netherlands (district list coming soon) are allowed to produce and sell cannabis legally within those areas.
This has reshaped the coffeeshop experience completely — no more weighing your weed at the counter, no more smelling before you buy, and no more smoking inside coffeeshops. Every single gram sold is now tracked in a database.
It’s a big shift, and like anything new, it brings both pros and cons. Personally, I don’t mind it — especially with the price drop. The product isn’t bad, and you can now get five grams for as little as €21.50.
The downside is that everything is pre-packaged, and you never really know what you’re getting until you open it. That’s where this website comes in. With your help, I want to document and photograph every strain, hash, rosin, and isolator available on the market so everyone can buy their weed with a little more confidence.
Before We Get to the Strains…
Before diving into the top five experiment strains, it’s good to understand the basics. Whether you’re chasing that creative lift-off, a slow, dreamy body melt, or something perfectly in between — the right strain can turn an ordinary smoke session into something unforgettable.
A Quick Guide to Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid — The “Wizard’s Rule of Thumb”
Cannabis comes in three broad categories — Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid — and the best way to remember them is this little mantra:
🪄 “Indica = In Da Couch, Sativa = So Active.”
It’s that simple.
Indica strains tend to calm the body and quiet the mind — perfect for nighttime or winding down.
Sativa strains are bright, cerebral, and energizing — ideal for conversation, creativity, or a walk around the city.
Hybrids are where magic happens — carefully bred to blend the best of both worlds.
🍃 Top 5 Strains to Try in Groningen
These are the strains that the true connoisseurs in Groningen whisper about — the ones that carry real flavor, real potency, and a distinct Dutch-grown identity.
1. Georgia Pie (Hollandse Hoogtes)
Georgia Pie by Hollandse Hoogtes has to be my favorite weed in the city. With a next-level aroma, 29% THC, and a fruity taste in any form of smoke, Georgia Pie checks every box for what I love in a strain.
This weed reminds me of home — it brings me back to a time when I felt completely content with the world. Every time I smoke Georgia Pie, I get this calm sense of enlightenment, like everything around me makes just a little more sense.
It’s rich, dessert-like, and euphoric — truly one of the best examples of what Groningen’s experiment weed can offer.
2. Gary Payton (Hollandse Hoogtes)
Gary Payton by Hollandse Hoogtes is another beautifully curated strain. With its dense structure, bold look, and 30% THC, it’s perfect for a chill night at home. The flavor leans slightly earthy, and the high is relaxed yet clear-headed — ideal for anyone who smokes regularly and wants a joint that hits hard but still keeps you sharp and talkative.
Funny story: I still don’t know if this is true, but one day in California I was smoking with some friends at a classic local spot when a guy walked up and asked if we wanted to try a new strain he had created. He said he was a grower and that he and his friend worked on unique crossings. He told me it was called Gary Payton because he loved “The Glove” — which I didn’t understand until I looked it up later and realized that’s the NBA legend’s nickname.
Whether his story was real or not doesn’t even matter — it’s still a fun memory attached to one of my favorite strains.
3. Fruit Punch (BIO Aardachtig)
Fruit Punch , one of the most flavorful strains in the experiment , has been one of my favorites for a long time. When it comes to smoking weed, there are two things that really matter: the vibe and the high.
If you’re looking to get absolutely blasted out of your mind, this isn’t the strain for you. But if you’re after a chill, enjoyable smoke session that still keeps you in a good headspace, Fruit Punch hits the mark. It has a sweet, fruity flavor from start to finish, making it one of the fruitiest strains on the market.
The high is Sativa-dominant, leaning toward a creative and uplifting experience rather than a sleepy one. If you want to brainstorm new ideas, laugh with friends, or just enjoy a mellow afternoon, this is your strain. Expect bright energy, a lifted mood, and maybe even a few spontaneous giggles.
☕ Where to Find These Strains
You’ll find Hollandse Hoogtes (HH) and Aardachtig (BIO) products in select Groningen coffee shops that focus on locally cultivated, high-quality flower. Look for knowledgeable budtenders who can point you toward their freshest stock — these strains don’t stay on the shelves long.
(You can also explore these growers directly on WeedWizard’s Growers page, or check live strain availability on our WeedMap section.)
🌱 Enjoying Weed the Dutch Way
In the Netherlands, cannabis isn’t just a product — it’s a culture. Here in Groningen, people treat it with the same respect as good beer or fine cheese. It’s about quality, flavor, and community.
So whether you’re exploring a fruity Sativa, a rich Hybrid, or a dreamy Indica, remember: cannabis is meant to enhance life, not escape it. Respect your limits, enjoy the moment, and always support ethical local growers.
✨ Final Thoughts from the Weed Wizard
The world of cannabis is evolving fast — and Groningen is at the heart of it. With cultivators like Hollandse Hoogtes and Aardachtig leading the way, local weed culture is shifting toward transparency, organic growth, and flavor-driven experiences.
Each puff tells a story — of craftsmanship, connection, and a little Dutch magic.
So roll up something special, take a deep breath, and enjoy what Groningen has to offer.Because here, getting high is an art form.
